Experiment Summary
Participants are shown a piece of paper with colors printed in similarly colored ink (congruent stimulus) ie. "red" printed in red ink and "blue" printed in blue ink, and asked to read them aloud. Reaction time is measured from start of reading first word to last word. Another paper is then presented with colors printed in different colored inks (incongruent stimulus) ie. "red" printed in blue ink and "yellow" printed in green ink. Subjects are instructed to name the color of ink words are printed in. Reaction time is measured from first ink color to last ink color.
Independent Variable(s)
Whether the words are printed in the same color or not .
Dependent Measure(s)
Reaction time.
Expected Results
The reaction time should be greater when the word and ink color presented are incongruent than when word and ink color are congruent.
