Schema
From MerrimackWiki
Definition
Schema is a framework of how things work in situations. Bartlett believed that schemas help us understand events while they are happening and also help us in recalling the event later when they are being remembered.
Schema is our knowledge about what is involved in a particular experience. For instance, things that can happen in a baseball game or working a particular job.
Significance
The information in schemas can provide a way for making inferences about your memory. Brewer and Treyens (1981) conducted an experiment regarding schema. The experiment studied how memory is influenced by people's schemas about offices. Participants were asked to recall many things they in the office while waiting however some of there "memory" included things which were not in the office but fit into their "office schema."
