CCVVC
From MerrimackWiki
Definition
This refers to the materials used in the structural condition of Craik and Tulving's experiment. In the shallow processing condition it refers to a pattern of consonants/ vowels. In the experiment, the orienting task would present a code such as CCVVC and ask participants whether the word presented follows the same pattern of consonants and vowels. This was often a time consuming task.
Significance
This is significant because it was used to rebut Craik and Tulving’s previous experiment which supported the total time hypothesis. Determining whether a word fit a pattern of CCVVC was a structural task, but it took participants a long time to complete. Therefore, if participant had more accurate recall for words from the sentence condition of the experiment (as it did) it would refute the total time hypothesis and supports the notion of levels of processing.
