"memory" from the levels of processing perspective

Definition

According to this persepective, memory depends on how information is encoded and processed. For Craik and Lockhart it is known as a by-product.

Significance

When we encounter a stimulus, we immediately start processing the information we received from that stimulus. This processing follows a particular parttern which involves an increasingly deeper analysis of the stimulus that involves meaning. Memory "stores" such as sensory memory, STM, and LTM, are an artifact of experimental methods.
